Colonel JASON GRANDY Col. Jason M. Grandy is Commander of the 919th Special Operations Wing, United States Air Force Reserve, Duke Field, Florida. He provides leadership to organize, train, equip, and maintain the Air Force Reserve Command’s only special operations wing. In addition, he leads the wing’s special operations forces ensuring unit readiness for worldwide deployments in support of combatant commands as well as directing wing headquarters staff functions. The 919th SOW provides 1,600 Citizen Air Commandos trained to perform the Air Force’s Expeditionary Combat Support mission as well as its Non-Standard Aviation programs utilizing C-146A Wolfhound aircraft. Airmen assigned to the wing conduct flight instruction and deploy as required in the U-28, PC-12, AC-130J and C-146A aircraft. The wing also employs the MQ-9 remotely piloted aircraft in support of combatant commanders worldwide. Members of the 919th SOW also deliver full motion video processing, exploitation and dissemination to special operations forces engaged in combat and non-combat operations around the globe. Col. Grandy is a 1999 graduate of Clemson University where he received his commission through the Air Force ROTC program. In 2001, he graduated Undergraduate Pilot Training at Columbus Air Force Base, Mississippi. His first operational assignment was to Cannon AFB, New Mexico where he flew the F-16CJ as a 4-ship flight lead performing Suppression of Enemy Air Defenses mission. He was then assigned to the 15th Reconnaissance Squadron at Nellis AFB and Creech AFB, Nevada, where he flew the MQ-1 predator as both an instructor and evaluator pilot. He deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2008 as the MQ-1 Launch and Recovery Element Commander. Col. Grandy transitioned to the Reserve in 2009 and served in the 2nd SOS as an MQ-9 pilot and later squadron commander. Afterwards, he transferred to Air Force Special Operations Command Headquarters where he served in the Force Structure and Basing Division as the Deputy Chief of Programs. He was the Reserve Component subject matter expert for AFSOC’s Total Force Integration initiatives and force composition where he implemented TFI efforts with HAF, AFRC, Air National Guard and other Air Force Major Commands and Department of Defense agencies. Prior to his current assignment, Col. Grandy was the commander of the 919th Special Operation Group.
