The Citizen Air Commandos at the 919th Special Operations Wing hosted the 10th Air Force commander, during a visit to the Florida panhandle Jan. 18-20.

Maj. Gen. Richard Scobee observed first-hand the work being done in the 919th SOW and discuss the wing’s rapidly evolving mission in support of Air Force Special Operations.

“I was expecting to be impressed with the level of operations that are occurring here, but it far exceeded my expectations,” said Scobee. “You guys are professionals, and there’s a lot of humility as well and it’s great to see.”

During his visit, Scobee spent time at both Duke Field and Hurlburt Field, meeting with Citizen Airmen from various squadrons and gaining further insight into the missions here.

“He can see that we have people going out the door every day,” said Col. Regina Sabric, commander of the 919th Special Operations Group. “We are not the typical one airplane, one mission wing and he got to see that diversity.”

With such specialized missions, the 919th SOW stands out by conducting operations that many other units aren’t equipped or trained to perform—an attribute that did not go unnoticed by Scobee.

“The 919th is almost as diverse as the [Numbered Air Force] itself and you really run the gamut of mission sets” said Scobee. “It’s impressive.”

From meeting with wing leadership to recognizing deserving Airmen, Scobee touched all aspects of the Citizen Air Commando presence.

“Everywhere I went, the Airmen were passionate about what their contribution is and that is incredibly important,” said Scobee.

Before departing Duke Field, Scobee addressed a crowd of 919th SOW Airmen and civilians at an assembly Friday morning. He shared his expectations and appreciation for all of the work being done.

“It is good for Airmen to hear from him about his vision, direction and goals, and to know what our leadership needs from us,” said Sabric.

In his final remarks to the members of the 919th SOW, Scobee expressed his gratitude.

“Thank you for what you do and thank you for making the 919th a great organization.”
