With more than 100 spectators in attendance, the event symbolized a welcoming and unified support for the local area's newest missions, the 7th Special Forces Group and Joint Strike Fighter Initial Training Site, as well as military families in general. The covenant reads: "We, the citizens of Okaloosa County, also recognize: the commitment and increasing sacrifices that all our military families are making every day; the strength of our service members comes from the strength of their families; the strength of families is supported by the strength of the community; and the strength of the community comes from the support of everyone in the community." The covenant adds, "We the citizens of Okaloosa County are committed to: building partnerships that support the strength, resilience and readiness of all our service members and their families." The ceremony concluded with the official dedication of an Eglin AFB F-15 Eagle aircraft for permanent display in front of the airport. The display also features a memorial dedicated to Capt. Ali Jivanjee, and Eglin F-15 pilot killed in a training mission over the Gulf of Mexico last year.
