Boots, hat, ABUs, blues… sometimes.

Those are required possessions for all Airmen who arrive here during each month’s unit training assembly.  In the rush to pack up or make it to sign in, those items can be forgotten, misplaced or just disappear.

Previously, the only option was to buy a new one or hope someone had an extra to make it through the weekend.  Now, the 919th Special Operations Wing’s Commando Closet may be able to supply that missing piece of the Citizen Air Commando’s wardrobe.

Open now at Bldg. 3005 (beside the Shopette), donated Air Force uniforms are available to any 919th SOW Airman with a specific attire need.

The closet which began accumulating Air Force attire about a year ago, began in the corner of the 919th Logistics Readiness Squadron’s MADD building and was cultivated by Kimberley Hernandez.

“We thought this was an opportunity to save our Airmen and the wing some money,” she said.  “It is also a way for anyone retiring to pass along any of their unneeded uniforms or equipment to those who could still use it.”

Anyone wishing to donate uniforms, stripes or other military accoutrements can drop them off during the Closet's business hours.

Those in need of a specific piece of ABU or blues uniform, can visit the Commando Closet Monday - Thursday as needed and Friday - Sunday of a UTA weekend from 2:30 - 4 p.m.  For more information, call 883-6817.
