Duke Field leadership to change hands in April Published March 10, 2009 DUKE FIELD, Fla. -- Colonel Steve Chapman, 919th Special Operations Wing commander, will relinquish leadership to Col. Jon A. Weeks, 919th SOW vice commander, in a change of command ceremony April 4 at 9 a.m. in the fuel cell hangar, Bldg. 3087. Maj. Gen. Thomas "T.C." Coon, 10th Air Force Commander, Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth, Texas, will officiate the ceremony. Colonel Chapman has been reassigned as commander of the Air Force Reserve's 315th Airlift Wing, Charleston Air Force Base, S.C., where he will be responsible for organizing, training and equipping a unit with more than 2,400 people. Operating C-17 Globemaster III airlift aircraft, the 315th AW is an associate unit of the Charleston active-duty host 437th Airlift Wing and provides a large part of Air Mobility Command's Global Reach airlift capability. In his new duties as 919th SOW commander, Colonel Weeks will be responsible for organizing, training, equipping and maintaining the wing's special operations forces to ensure unit readiness for worldwide deployment to regional unified commands. The most decorated Air Force Reserve wing, the 919th SOW employs the MC-130E Combat Talon I, PC-12/U-28 Pilatus in association with the Air Force Special Operations Training Center and the MQ-1 Predator Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Squadron in association with the 27th SOW. While the 919th SOW is a subordinate unit of Air Force Reserve Command, during wartime the wing reports to Air Force Special Operations Command headquartered at Hurlburt Field, Fla.
