Wing donates funds to Eglin honor guard Published Nov. 24, 2006 By Leslie Henderson 919th Special Operations Wing Public Affairs DUKE FIELD, Fla. -- The 919th Special Operations Wing presented the Eglin Air Force Base honor guard with a $705 donation toward their 2006 Team Eglin Honor Guard Recognition banquet held at the Eglin officer's club Nov. 1. "We were working to raise the money to help with the cost of the ceremony, so the members of the honor guard wouldn't have to pay for their own ceremony", said Chief Master Sgt. Rocky Hart wing command chief. "The honor guard does not receive any extra compensation for the work so we tried to help with the cost." With a goal of $2,100, fourteen sponsors contributed, raising a total of $3,100. The extra $1,000 will go toward other honor guard events. The groups of the 919th did not hesitate to donate money. They didn't even ask questions, said Chief Hart. The effort of the 919th SOW made the difference in reaching the goal, said Master Sgt. Angela Kennedy, 96th Air Base Wing awards program manager. The wing was the highest sponsor of the fourteen, raising nearly one fifth of the donations, she said. The honor guard supports the 919th SOW during events held on Duke Field and works hard and on their own time to train for events, said Chief Hart. The team is dedicated to the job because they truly take to heart the importance of making every event perfect. The 919th SOW is thankful for the work the honor guard does for the wing, and as a token of that appreciation, the wing worked hard to sponsor the banquet. The sacrifice for the honor guard is great, he said.
