DUKE FIELD, Fla. -- Officials from the 919th Special Operations Wing are using the unit's mobile app to share critical information on the impacts from the Coronavirus (COVID-19) to members of the unit and their famlies.

A COVID-19 button was added to the app as part of the unit's proactive steps to put critical and time sensitive information on the virus in the hands of its members.

"Our goal is to always share valuable and time sensitive information with our members and their families whenever faced with a crisis especially one of this magnitude," said Col. Kevin Merrill, 919 SOW commander. "Guidance concerning COVID-19 is literally changing by the hour which requires us to be timely in how we get information out to protect our members and keep them informed. The app offers that capability to our workforce in a user friendly platform and with information that's easy to digest."

The new virus button on the app contains information on the Air Force's response, impacts on the 919th SOW's mission and scheduled activities as well as infographics on current cases of COVOID-19 from Duke Field and the surrounding communities. Users of the app can access this information by clicking the COVID-19  button on the lower left of the app’s home screen.

One of the app’s most powerful tools remains its push alert messaging system. Known simply as push notifications, these short messages allow the wing commander to quickly get urgent information directly into the hands of Citizen Air Commandos.

"The app is an important tool for us to keep connected with our members without them having to be tied to a desktop computer," said Lt. Col. James R. Wilson, 919th SOW Chief of Public Affairs. "If you are a Reservist or a 919th SOW family member, I think you will find the app to be especially helpful in keeping you informed on issues affecting the unit. If you don't have it already, I urge you to download it so you can remain connected to the unit without having to be physically located at Duke Field."

The 919th SOW's mobile app is compatible with most mobile devices and can be found in your app store by searching “919th Special Operations Wing.”
