Honoring the flag
Attendees observe the honor guard’s presentation of the colors during an Air Commando Association memorial ceremony Oct. 10 at Hurlburt Field, Fla. The 30th anniversary memorial paid tribute to fallen special operators involved in Operations Desert One and Eagle Claw, the ill-fated attempt to rescue American hostages in Iran. Despite their tragic outcome the operations were credited as the catalyst that led to the formation of United States Special Operations Command and subsequently Air Force Special Operations Command. The ceremony culminated in an MC-130E fly-over by the 711th Special Operations Squadron from Duke Field. (U.S. Air Force Photo/Staff Sgt. Jonathan McCallum)
